We tested Regency FX for large international transfers. Here is our verdict on fees, exchange rates, and overall experience.
Regency FX is a solid choice for large, planned transfers where you want personal support, no upper limit, and the option to lock in a rate. It is not the right fit for small transfers, anyone who needs an app, or anyone who wants to see rates before speaking to someone. For the specific use case it targets, it works well, but given its limited review base and transparency gaps, it is worth comparing directly against TorFX or Currencies Direct before committing.
Regency FX charges no transfer fees. Pricing is built into the quoted exchange rate and varies by route, amount, destination, and speed requirements.
On major corridors, rates are generally competitive for broker-style transfers, especially on larger amounts.
The catch is transparency. You cannot see rates on the public website without submitting your name, email, and transfer details first. This makes it genuinely difficult to compare Regency FX against Wise or other providers before engaging with their team. For a service positioning itself around large, trust-sensitive transfers, the lack of upfront rate visibility is a weakness.
Forward contracts and limit orders are available and are a real differentiator. If you are selling property overseas or have a regular overseas liability, locking in a rate for up to 12 months removes currency risk in a way that standard transfer apps cannot match.
Most transfers complete within 24 hours. Some routes, particularly outside Europe, take between one and three business days. Regency FX does not publish corridor-by-corridor speed estimates, so you cannot check expected delivery time before committing. For time-sensitive transfers, this is worth factoring in. If you need same-day or near-instant delivery, Wise is a more reliable option.
No maximum limit. This is Regency FX's clearest advantage over consumer transfer apps. Wise imposes rolling limits that can block large one-off transfers. XE and similar services have their own caps. With Regency FX, you can move a full property sale proceeds in a single transaction, supported by an account manager throughout. The service is explicitly positioned for amounts of $5,000 or more, where the rates become most competitive.
Regency FX supports 150 destination countries but only 35 currencies, which is on the lower end for a currency broker. Wise covers 40+ currencies; XE and WorldRemit support 130+ countries each with broader currency ranges.
Payment methods are limited. In most countries you must fund your transfer by bank transfer. UK senders can also use a debit or credit card, which is a useful exception. Delivery is bank-to-bank only: no cash pickup, no mobile wallet, no airtime top-up.
The standout product feature is regular payments. Most currency brokers focus on one-off transfers. Regency FX lets you schedule recurring transfers at a fixed amount and frequency, which works well for paying overseas salaries, mortgages, or regular invoices.
There is no mobile app. This is the most significant usability gap. You can access the site via a mobile browser, but the experience is not built for it. If you need to initiate or track transfers on the move, Wise or TransferGo are better options.
The signup and transfer process requires you to register, state your transfer details, and then wait to be contacted by an account manager before proceeding. It is slower and more manual than self-service apps. For larger or more complex transfers, the account manager model adds value. For straightforward one-off transfers, it adds friction.
Customer support runs by phone (+44 800 041 8031) and email ([email protected]), based in Truro, Cornwall. Support is English-language only.
Regency FX is legitimate and regulated. It holds FCA authorisation in the UK and operates in the US through a partnership with Currency Cloud Inc and the Community Federal Savings Bank. Client funds are safeguarded in line with FCA requirements, held separately from company funds.
The main caveat is age. Regency FX was founded in 2020, which means a shorter track record than brokers like TorFX or Currencies Direct. For very large transfers, some users may prefer the reassurance of a more established name.
Trustpilot: 4.7/5 from 121 reviews. Positive overall, but the small sample size limits how much weight you can put on it. Common praise centres on account manager responsiveness and ease of setup. However, one detailed negative review from a named user alleged that the rate quoted upfront was significantly lower than the rate applied once funds were received, and that improvement only came after repeated pushback. This pattern, if it reflects wider practice, is worth being alert to.
