    Our Verdict

WorldFirst is a strong all-round business payments platform for SMEs operating internationally. With 100+ currencies, 15+ local accounts, 130+ marketplace integrations, and no monthly fees, it competes directly with Airwallex and Wise Business. The standout features are its China payment infrastructure (instant payments to 150,000+ Chinese suppliers) and its integration depth. The main weaknesses are a moderate Trustpilot score, exchange rates that can be less competitive on some corridors, and a KYC process that can be slow. Best for e-commerce businesses and SMEs with genuine multi-currency needs across multiple regions.

    Fees and Exchange Rates

WorldFirst charges no account or monthly fees. Conversion costs are built into the exchange rate and can vary by corridor, amount, and timing.

Local payments in GBP, EUR, or USD carry a 0.3% fee. Cross-currency payments above £5,000 are free. Payments between WorldFirst accounts are instant and free. If you hold the destination currency already in your multi-currency account and pay directly from it, no conversion fee applies.

Rates are confirmed before payment, but a small number of reviews report discrepancies between quoted and applied rates. Worth verifying for larger transactions.

    Transfer Speed

Major currency transfers settle same-day if sent before cut-off. International transfers take 2-3 business days. Exotic currencies (TWD, FJD, SCR) can take up to 11 days if sent after cut-off times. Full cut-off schedules are published on the WorldFirst website.

    Transfer Limits

No stated maximum on transfers. World Card limits vary by country: GBP accounts allow up to £100,000 per single transaction and £750,000 monthly. AUD and USD cards are capped at 50,000 and 200,000 monthly respectively. Limits can be adjusted down within the platform.

    Product Offering

WorldFirst's multi-currency account supports 100+ currencies with 15 fee-free local accounts: AUD, CAD, CHF, CNH, CZK, EUR, GBP, HKD, JPY, MXN, NZD, PLN, SEK, SGD, and USD. Airwallex offers 12 local accounts; Sokin only 4.

The integration ecosystem is the strongest in the category for e-commerce businesses: 130+ marketplace connections including Amazon, Shopify, and Etsy, plus accounting integrations with Xero and NetSuite, and direct links to Chinese supplier platforms TaoWorld and 1688. If your business sells on multiple platforms, no competitor matches this depth.

The World Card is a virtual Mastercard earning up to 1.2% cashback. No FX fee applies when spending in a held currency. Physical cards are in development. There is no ATM access.

FX risk tools include spot contracts, limit orders, and forward contracts up to 24 months, matching Equals Money and ahead of TorFX and Regency FX (both capped at 12 months).

    Ease of Use

Accounts are available to registered businesses only. Onboarding requires standard business verification documents and director details. The KYC process is thorough and some users report waits of several weeks. This is consistent with Airwallex, Wise Business, and Moneycorp, but worth factoring into your timeline.

Once active, the platform is described by users as intuitive and easy to navigate. The mobile app (iOS and Android) covers card management, payments, rate monitoring, and currency conversion. It is functional but not feature-rich; most work is done on desktop.

    Customer Support

Live chat responds in around 1 minute. Phone lines are available in most major markets. Email typically takes a day. WorldFirst has dedicated regional numbers and contacts across the UK, EU, Australia, Singapore, China, Japan, and more, making it one of the better-supported platforms for businesses operating across multiple regions.

    Safety and Trust

WorldFirst holds 60+ regulatory licences globally and has been part of the Alibaba Group since 2019. Key authorisations include FCA (UK), ASIC (Australia), MAS (Singapore), DNB (Netherlands), and FinCEN (US). Security features include two-factor authentication, 256-bit encryption, 3D Secure for card payments, and fraud monitoring systems.

    Customer Feedback

Trustpilot: 3.8/5 from 3,000+ reviews. Positive reviews focus on setup simplicity, support quality, and platform usability once onboarded. The main complaints are around KYC delays (some users waiting months for approval) and occasional rate discrepancies. The KYC complaint pattern is common across the category, but the rate discrepancy issue is worth noting for larger transactions.
